Obituary of Barbara Jean Newman Lenyard, 81
Barbara Jean Lenyard was the second child born to Leomia and Andrew Newman. She entered this world on September 14, 1938. During childbirth, her mom died. Her aunt, Christine Richardson raised her. Barbara’s family life was shared with five siblings; Billy, Odie, Wanda, Bruce, and Brenda.
Barbara went to Carver School in Baytown, Texas. She graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Barbara furthered her education and went to beauty school. She was an awesome beautician. She once dyed the eyelashes of Roy Roger’s mom, one by one. She was a swimming instructor.
Barbara later went on to work at Billeting on England Air Force Base and Central LA State Hospital. She retired from both jobs.
She was lovingly known to many as, “G-Momma”. G-Momma didn’t mind telling anyone the truth. She could cook anything and Her food was the best.
Barbara was joined in holy matrimony to Alphonsa Lenyard, Sr. on June 22, 1964. To this union three children were born. Angelia, Andreia, and Alphonsa Jr. She was also blessed with three older children. Elza, Brenda, and Annie Mae.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonsa Sr. son, Elza R. Newman, two brothers, Odie and Bruce Burkley, her parents, her aunt who raised her, Christine Richardson, and grandson, Aldean D. White.
Barbara was called to her heavenly home on July 25, 2020.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, her children, Brenda Sanders (John), Annie Mae Paul (Gregory), Angelia Davis (Gary), Andreia Lenyard, and Alphonsa Lenyard, Jr. (Mersena); Sisters, Brenda Burkley Levingston and Wanda Richardson; brother, Billy Newman, twelve grandchildren, Roshunda, Precious, LaCercia, LaShawnda, Crystal, Melvin, Joseph, Shaterica, Roman, Kiara, Meghan, and Alphonsa III.
