Obituary of Benjamin Jones, Sr., 81

A service honoring the life and legacy of Mr. Benjamin Jones, Sr. will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Second Evening Star Baptist Church, 150 Cooper Rd., Alexandria, LA 71303 at 10:30 am. Public viewing will begin at 9:30 until the start of service. Mr. Jones will be laid to rest in the McNutt Hill Cemetery in Boyce, Louisiana immediately following the service. Obituary According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Philippians 1:20-21 Benjamin Jones, Sr. was born on June 1, 1939 to the union of Willie and Mary Jones, Sr. He slept away peacefully at the age of 81 years old in the arms of our Heavenly Father on June 13, 2020. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. G.C. Jacob, at Second Evening Star Baptist Church where he attended faithfully as a Deacon and Deacon Emeritus, participating in Sunday School and the Brotherhood Choir. He supported his Pastors with love and respect. Even though he was man with a sixth grade education, he had the wisdom and knowledge of a person with multiple degrees. He started his adult life as a sharecropper and moved from working construction to owning and operating his own construction company. He was big on teaching his children the Word of God – about tithing and giving the 10% that belongs to God. As a father, he was second to none, providing for the needs of his family. He was very supportive and someone his children and grandchildren could talk to about any and every thing. Ben was married at the age of 20 to Lois Marie McQuarn. To this union five children were born, namely, Janice Hopkins (Sam), Benjamin Jones, Jr. (Linda), Anthony Wayne Jones, who preceded him in death, Micheal Wayne Jones and Debra Ann Rocha (Rene) who also preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, grandchildren, Anthony Jones (Jamie), Terrelle Jones (Jasmine), Samantha Hopkins, Andrea Hopkins, Jermaine Jones (Sonya), Christopher Jones (Courtney), Broderick Jones, Malcom Senviel (Kai), Micheal Kortez Jones, Matthew Wayne Jones, Shawndricka Lumsey (Bo), Henry Harris, Rory Omar Harris (Vanessa) and Donally Messeguem (Abdelhamid); his sisters, Alice Williams and Mary Ella Recard, his brother, Joseph Jones, his Goddaughter, Carrie Jean Smith, sixteen great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
