Obituary Irene Amos Silas was born January 7, 1925 in Bunkie, Louisiana to the union of Octo Edward and Willie Juanita Gadison Amos. She received her education in Alexandria, Louisiana, where she attended Peabody High School. Irene believed and received the word of God at an early age and united with Wesley Booneville United Methodist Church. As a young woman, she met the love of her life, Dave Silas, Sr. On September 18, 1947, they became one. From this union five children were born. Many knew Irene as a talented seamstress. She was able to simply look at a design, and create a masterpiece. She was a fashion genius in her community. Not only was she a talented seamstress, she was also an amazing cook. If you knew Irene Amos Silas, you know she made the best sweet potato pies. Irene continued to receive the word of God as a member of Newman United Methodist Church, where she was very active in numerous ministries. She served as a communion steward and Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years, and she worked vacation bible school for more than 40 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, and as a member, she served on the local and district levels. She was an original member of the Landmark Jubilee choir, and later became a member of the Newmanaires choir. Her church held a very special place in her heart. In any way, and at any time, she always made herself available to serve the Lord and her Newman family. Irene departed this life on February 10, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters; Pinkie Wallace and Geneva Amos and two brothers; James Amos, Sr. and Willie Lawrence Amos, and her two nephews Eddie Wallace and Edward Wallace. She leaves to mourn, her five children; Robert Silas of Columbia Maryland, Evelyn Gale Silas Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; Irene Silas Hobbs (Everett) of Alexandria, Louisiana; Barbara Silas Chinn of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Dave Silas, Jr. of Alexandria, Louisiana. Seven Grandchilden, Eric Carlton (Larissa), LaRunda Hobbs Pierce, Chris Hobbs, Eric Johnson, Kedrick Silas, Irene Davis (Sterling) and Marcus Hobbs, along with eleven great-grandchildren, a devoted friend, Ingrid Milo and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. ~Miller & Hill~
