She accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. E.C. Curtis. Dorothy was a proud graduate of Peabody High School, Class of 1962. She was a dedicated member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Youth Choir Sponsor, Mass Choir member, Praise and Worship Team member, Women’s Ministry member. She regularly attended Sunday School, Worship Service and Bible Study. Dorothy was a dedicated member of Ruth Chapter #29 OES, Heroines of Jericho Rosebud Court #11, and Mary G.M. She also enjoyed attending The Homemaker’s Club, the J.O.Y Senior Group, the R.O. Martin Center Exercise Class, and the Floral Club. She retired from Pinecrest Developmental Center after 28 years, and later was a Foster Grandparent at Pinecrest for several years.
Dorothy Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Johnnie Holmes), one sister (Cleo Webster), and three brothers (James Neal, Sr., Donald Neal, Sr., and Aaron Neal, Jr.)
She leaves to cherish her memory one son: Kevin Wallace (Ana) of Dallas, TX; two daughters: Jacqueline Wallace (Alvin), Karen Franklin (Raymond) both of Alexandria, LA; one brother Andrew Neal, Sr. (Yvette) of Garland, TX; two sisters-in-law: Jacqueline Neal of Dallas, TX, and Loretta Johnson of Pineville, LA; four grandchildren: Ashleigh (Larry), Amber, Dimetri (Stephanie), Raquelle; and a loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was a strong and loving woman that always made the best of her situations. She was fun-loving, caring, kind, a true friend, and didn’t mind going above and beyond for her family and friends. She was always quick to put others above herself and made a point to put God first in her life and to instill God into the lives of her children and grandchildren (whom she spoiled lovingly).
Please keep the family in your prayers.
