Obituary of Loleta Roland

Sister Loleta “Mitze” Rose Roland was born to the union of Overton Roland Sr. and Polly Roland on April 1, 1961, in Pineville, Louisiana. Loleta was reared in a Christian home and community.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend E.D. Pierce. She was also a faithful and dedicated member of First New Light Baptist Church where she actively served on many committees.

Loleta graduated from Tioga High School and then matriculated to Louisiana Tech University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree. She later enrolled in Ole Miss University and culminated her higher education at Northwestern State University where she acquired both a Masters and Specialist Degree in Education. Early in her career, Loleta was employed as a Case Worker in Grant Parish, afterwards she began a career in Education for the Rapides Parish School Board that spanned over three decades. Throughout the years, she taught at several schools in the parish; the majority of her years were dedicated to Tioga High School and Tioga Junior High. She worked as the Assistant Principal of Tioga Junior High School until she retired, due to medical reasons, in December 2018.

On Thursday, September 5, 2019, Mitze received a call from God to come home. At about 7:30 a.m., she accepted that call.

Sister Loleta was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Overton and Clara Roland; and her maternal grandparents, Henry Bowie Jr. and Rosie Shipman.
