Obituary of Mrs. Virgie Elie
Virgie Mary Ford Elie was born on January 6th, 1926 to Jessie Ford and Annie Nicholas, both of Marksville, Louisiana. She called Hickory Hill, Louisiana home for many years until she married Walter Joseph Elie. Upon marriage, the couple relocated to Inglewood Plantation where they embarked on martial bliss for 55 years.
Virgie was taught about hard work at an early age. Her passion for cooking came from watching her grandmother in the kitchen from sunup to sundown. She took that love of cooking into her career where she worked as a cafeteria worker at Bolton High School for over 40 years.
Virgie was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and loved being a “Momo” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virgie loved any chance to spend time with her family. Known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor, Virgie spent most Saturdays in the kitchen making her family’s favorite dishes while enjoying good zydeco and down-home blues music.
With the help of the Good Lord, Virgie exemplified being a true servant by always putting others before herself. She was full of love, grace, and strength and taught her family that no matter the situation, to continue to press through. She allowed Christ’s love and joy to shine through her heart and touch anyone she encountered.
Virgie departed this life on July 15th, 2019 at 10:26 pm in Gonzales, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Ford and Annie Nicholas; her husband, Walter Elie; her brothers, Wille Ford and Frank Ford; and her sister, Mary Pantallion.
Virgie is survived by her daughter, Latesha Moore of Baton Rouge, LA; two sons whom she and her husband raised, Wilbert Elie, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA and Ellery (Barbara) Elie, Sr of Alexandria, LA; four grandchildren, Anastasia Elie and Jalen Moore both of Baton Rouge, LA; Ellery (Latrice) Elie, Jr and Carlina (Derrick) Moore both of Alexandria, LA; a special great- granddaughter, Trinity Valley of Alexandria, LA; four great- grandsons, Ellery Elie, III, Elijah Elie, Derrick Moore, Jr. and Karson Moore all of Alexandria, LA; sister- in-law, Elviney Phillips of Alexandria, LA; special daughter-in-law, Audrey Taylor of Alexandria, LA; grand puppy, Roman Joseph Moore and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, relatives and friends.
