Obituary of Mrs. Georgia Tanner

Georgia Sims Tanner was born in Boyce, Louisiana on "The Buy" (Bayou Rapides) on April 29, 1930 to the late Herbert Poppa Sims and Alice Alle' Sims.  She peacefully transitioned to her reward with the Lord on June 6, 2019, her mother's birthday. 

As a child, Georgia was a faithful member of Oakland Missionary Baptist Church in Lecompte, Louisiana.  She later became a of Greater Live Oak Missionary Baptist Church in Alexandria, when her family moved from Chambers to Alexandria.  Both churches under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Roosevelt Shorter. 

Sister Tanner has been a devoted member of Love Fellowship Christian Church for the last 40 years, where she is lovingly known as "Mother Tanner". 

After retiring from Pinecrest State School, Georgia devoted her time to her children and grandchildren. 

Georgia, Momma, Mama, GramMam, MawMaw, GrandMaw, Aunt Georgie, Mrs. Georgia was loved by all and she wholeheartedly loved everyone.   

Preceding her in death were her parents, Herbert and Alice Sims; her husband, Clarence Tanner; seven sisters, Aggie Lee Sims Hurts, Frances Sims Trimmer, Florence Sims Dorsey, Edna Sims Marves, Bobbie Nell Sims Phillips, Grace Sims Metoyer and Theresa Roberts; and three brothers, O. B. Sims, Boss Sims and Blanchard Sims. 

Georgia leaves to cherish her memories her two daughters, Wanda Celestine and Gina Pierce (Marvin); five grandchildren, Yarkeshala Waldon, Asiana Bradley, Adrion Bradley,  Mia Pierce and Maya Pierce; six great grandchildren,  James Waldon, Ja'Quan Waldon, Joshua Waldon, Sr., Jeremiah Parnell, Cai Hines and Caz Davis; three great great grandchildren,  Joshua Waldon, Jr., Jonah Waldon and Jayce Waldon; a multitude of nieces and nephews, who loving call her "Aunt Georgie ", and a host of family and friends.
