Obituary of Mrs. Betty Mae Monk

Betty Mae Monk, of Alexandria, transitioned peacefully in her home on Tuesday, April 3, 2019.

Betty Mae Monk (Sr. Diva) was born January 11, 1945 to the union of the late Rev. Samuel and Catherine Chew.

Betty    attended school in Rapides Parish and graduated from Peabody High School. She attend LSUA nursing program where she completed two years. She was baptized at an early age at the 1st Evening Star Baptist Church and later joined St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Joe S. Green. She was member of The Order of Eastern Star, Ruth Chapter

Betty lived all of her life in Alexandria, LA where she was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles Henry Monk  for 42 years.

Betty retired from Rapides Parish School Board

On April 3, 2019 God called his Angel home. Betty Mae Monk was preceded in death by her mother and father Rev. Samuel and Catherine Chew, sisters, Katherine Morris Chambers, Martha Webb, brothers ,Samuel Chew Jr,(Blanche), Joseph Chew, and Albert Chew, son Charles Christopher Monk and  one  grandchild, Andre Marshal

Betty, leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Charles Henry Monk, sister –n law Helen Frazier (Henry)  sons, Kelvin Chew (Kristina) Christopher Monk (Towanna) Glen Monk, daughters, Helen Marshal (Chris), Gwen Monk Lewis, and Laurie Monk Tucker (Charles).

Betty had 14 grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews, relatives and special friends (Irma Venson, Marie Drakes, Ollie Monk, and Rev. Sherri L. Brown Jackson.
