Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want...

Bro. Carl Alvin Wilkinson, Sr. was born August 6, 1937, to the Union of the late Houston and Carrie Amelia Williams.  After his parent divorced, Carl was reared by  his mother and the late Tolton Hayes in Cottonport,  La.

Bro. Carl attended Bunkie Colored High School, later named Carver High School in Bunkie, La where he graduated in 1956. Shortly after, he joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. He was employed  by the VA Medical Center and was known as “The Bug Man” for 31 years until he retired. After retirement, he went on to work for Rapides Parish School board as a crossing guard for Martin Park Elementary and a custodian for Industrial Rubber and Gasket, as well as, Attorney Drew Texada.

Bro. Carl accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age at Magnolia Baptist Church in Evergreen, La. He was one who loved the Lord. He was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Evergreen, La under the leadership of Rev. Frankie Ford for many years until moving his membership to Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Alexandria, La. under the leadership of Rev. Robert Butler and now Pastor Vincent Parker.

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, at 10:45 p.m., Bro. Wilkinson heard the final call from the Captain of his Salvation saying, “Well done, thy Good and Faithful Servant, you have fought a good fight, you’ve finished your course, and you’ve kept the faith.” After hearing these words, he quietly fell asleep in the arms of Jesus.

Bro. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, four (4) brothers and six (6) sisters.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 58 years, Alice Wilkinson of Alexandria, La.; two (2) sons, Carl Alvin Wilkinson, Jr., (fiancé, Ella Maxwell); Donald Ray Wilkinson (Sidney) both of Alexandria, La.; one (1) sister, Rachel Cathy Hayes Conner (Stephen) of Missouri City, Texas; three (3) Brothers, Freeman Hayes of Waco, Texas; Lyman E.
